Making Peace with Pizza

I’ve come a long way with my relationship with food, and I’ll be forever grateful for the peace and freedom I now have- it’s truly priceless.

It’s simple things, nowadays, that serve to remind me of this and in which, I find great peace and gratitude.

Simple things like eating pizza

Most weekends, my husband and I go out with friends for a couple cocktails and pizza, and I never take for granted my ability to enjoy every bite, being able to be present in the conversations and moments with people I care about.

I no longer calculate how much I ate, or stuff myself thinking, “If I’m going to be bad, I might as well be really bad.” Nor do I make a silent agreement with myself to hit the gym hard the next day and only eat salads.

Unlike years past when white bread, sweets, and fried foods were forbidden, I now allow all foods. That means that when I feel like eating pizza, I eat it- I don’t avoid it fearing it will change my body, nor do I have to earn it, which would just lead me to binge on it. Now, it’s just pizza- carbohydrates, fats, and protein- all building blocks for fueling our bodies- and I can stop when I’ve had enough because I know it will always be there.
